Andrew Tiedt: Criminal Defence Lawyer
Andrew is a Director and Principal of J Sutton Associates. He is a Law Society of NSW Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law.
Before joining J Sutton Associates, Andrew was the principal of his own firm and prior to that was a director of a national law firm.
He has spent his entire career working exclusively in criminal law.
Unlike most lawyers who throw the word “specialist” around, Andrew is part of the select group of solicitors in New South Wales recognized by the Law Society as an Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law. For us, "specialist" is not just a word, it is a statement about the quality of the legal services we are committed to providing to our clients.
Andrew has acted for thousands of clients who had been accused of criminal offences. These matters have included high profile and sensitive prosecutions, matters of significant personal significance, and complex matters where expert advice and advocacy have made all the difference.
Andrew has experience across a wide range of matters. This has included appearing for persons charged with murder, sexual offending, fraud, serious driving offences, drug supply and possession, violence, and internet based offences. As well as his work in the higher courts, he has acted for many clients with less serious allegations, including driving and regulatory offending.
Andrew has appeared in criminal matters before the Supreme, District, Local and Childrens’ Courts. He has also done quasi-criminal work before the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) Administrative Appeals Tribunal (the AAT), the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT), as well as the NSW and Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.
He has also acted in civil proceedings that are connected to criminal charges or criminal allegations. This has included applications for the freezing of assets, defending claims for damages arising out of alleged criminal offending, and acting for employees accused for defrauding their employers.
Andrew also handles claims against Police and other bodies for such matters has false imprisonment, unlawful arrest, assault, and malicious prosecution.
Andrew has established a reputation as a fierce and skilled advocate for his clients and is one of the few solicitors in New South Wales who appears in jury trials without counsel. Where counsel is required, Andrew has the connections and the experience to brief whoever is needed, and to put together the right legal team for the circumstances.
Perhaps just as importantly, Andrew has always striven to communicate with clients. We frequently hear complaints from clients that their lawyer did not explain something, did not listen to them, or that the lawyer was impossible to get hold of. We understand that clients who have been charged with a criminal offence need someone who will speak honestly and frankly with them, answer their questions, and give them the information they need to understand and deal with what is before them.
Many lawyers who act in criminal law will tell you that they have what it takes. Very few are able to back that statement up with tangible experience. At J Sutton Associates, we know that we have the skills and the experience to get the best results possible.
